Parker Hannifin, the motion and control technologies supplier, has introduced the MC Series of low voltage asynchronous motor controllers for mobile hydraulic applications that include ancillary machines in mining. Representing “the latest design standard” for compact and reliable controllers for mobile applications, the aim of the MC Series is to provide a drive solution for battery systems between 24 and 96 VDC (with AC induction motors), while at the same time offering “an unbeatable combination of power, performance and functionality.”
Among the benefits that OEMs can expect include a hardened drive designed for low voltage vehicle duty, regenerative braking, reduced fuel consumption and emissions, quiet operations, higher reliability, and power system downsizing. The high efficiency of these new Parker AC induction motor controllers makes it possible to integrate the units into very tight spaces without sacrificing performance. The design has been optimised for lowest possible installed cost while maintaining superior reliability in the most demanding conditions. The harsh operating environments experienced by mobile hydraulic systems are catered for with a number of innovative design attributes. For instance, these IP65-rated, air-cooled motor controllers feature a Gore Tex area to avoid condensing, an automotive-rated Tyco connector for drive connections, and a high efficiency cold plate heat sink. Such features mean the MC Series can be directly mounted onto the vehicle.
The drives use the new MC Configuration Manager, Windows-compatible software tool to configure the drives for their specific application. This Windows-compatible software features many innovative functions, such as the unique Auto-Tune function, for example, which allows quick and easy characterisation of the motor without the need for dynamometer testing.
