SME meets with congressional staff to discuss mineral reserves reporting

In America last week, SME participated in meetings with staff of the House Financial Services Committee to discuss ongoing problems with the SEC’s mineral reserves disclosure reporting requirements for US mining companies, better known as Industry Guide 7.

The Financial Services Committee has jurisdiction over the SEC, and their committee staff have agreed to help SME and the National Mining Association circulate letters of support for SME’s petition for rulemaking that SME filed in 2012 to force the SEC to realign their mineral reserves reporting standards of IG7 with the rest of the mining world. Further, SME has submitted questions to ask SEC Chair Mary Jo White during an April 29 SEC oversight hearing about  when her agency will address the competitive disadvantage to U.S. mining companies.
