Biometric control system maintains control

Posted on 26 May 2014

Booyco Electronics’ pioneering biometric control system effectively addresses the challenge of maintaining proper control of underground machine operators. This unique system uses fingerprints to authenticate licensed  operators. Unique personalised smart cards issued to operators store fingerprints and details of all their licensed capabilities, with expiry dates. This means the only way an operator can access and operate a given machine is if the scanning device on the machine validates his fingerprint. This same level of control can be applied underground in other control environments, such as explosive magazines and access control to substations.

The development of the biometric control system makes provision for an IS unit, powered by an IS power supply housed in a flameproof enclosure, for use in local coal mines. Communications to and from the biometric device takes places via an approved control module. In terms of affordability, the new biometric control system is highly cost effective in relation to the value it adds.
