Goldcorp has produced its first gold from its $1.8 billion Eleonore mine, located in the James Bay region of Northern Quebec. The company’s President and CEO Chuck Jeannes, said that during its development stage the project created 2,000 jobs, from which about 900 will be maintained as the mine moves towards full production. Outtput for this year is expected to be between 40,000 and 60,000 oz of gold, reaching 7,000 t/d by 2018.

Flinders Resources has announced an update on the Woxna project and the official opening ceremony that was held on site on September 17, 2014. The opening ceremony was attended by over 90 people including local stakeholders, graphite consumers, industry commentators and Flinders staff.  The ribbon to officially start the plant was cut by Yoomi Renström, the mayor of nearby Edsbyn. Also in attendance was a representative from the Consulate of Canada in Sweden.  This ceremony marks the official start of the facility which has been operating since July.  The plant is now ramping up to produce to a number of graphite specifications tailored to customer requirements.

Blair Way, President & CEO: “We were pleased with the large turnout to celebrate the successful restart of production.  The weather was amazing and all attendees had an up close and personal visit with the plant and management at the Woxna facility.  It was a great day for Flinders to showcase the efforts of the past 12 months, and I congratulate all staff and contractors for the safe and successful delivery of the project.”

Lundin Mining has commenced concentrate production from the high grade Eagle nickel-copper mine. Construction activities at the Eagle Mine are now substantially complete, with the project being delivered on budget and ahead of schedule compared to initial guidance.

Paul Conibear, President and CEO commented, “We are extremely proud of the tremendous achievement that has been accomplished at the Eagle Mine.  The Eagle Mine is a significant new, high-quality, low-cost mine, that has been constructed to the highest of safety, environmental and social responsibility standards”.

W Resources Plc plans to produce a separate tin concentrate at its Parilla tailings project via electrostatic separation, as part of a series of efforts to improve performance. The La Parilla project, situated 310km southwest of Madrid in the Extremadura region of southwest Spain, consists of a tungsten mine and tailings facility and has been producing tungsten concentrate since August. In June 2013 the mine resource was estimated at 46.92 Mt at 0.09% WO3. At a production rate of 330,000 t/y of ore an expected 450 t/y of tungsten trioxide (WO3) will primarily be produced. However, it is anticipated that installation of an electrostatic separator will allow 26 t of tin a year to be recovered from the tungsten concentrate, which contains 7% Sn. The 0.01% Sn grade at Parilla means tin is only produced viably as a by-product and thus annual tin output is likely to remain low.

Borneo Resource Investments, a mining company that mines gold and develops producing gold mining properties in Indonesia, has completed building its second processing area to extract gold from ore at its Ratatotok complex. The company has also commenced production at this new heap leach processing area which has the capacity to process 5,000 t/month.

The Ratatotok complex previously had one heap leach processing area that was already operating at full capacity processing 2,500 t/month. With an increase of its production capacity to a monthly total of 7,500 t of ore, Borneo has tripled gold production capacity at its Ratatotok site to approximately 7-10 kg (245-350 oz) of gold per month.
