New Face of Blast Design webinar to address challenges and solutions in mine blasting

Posted on 4 Feb 2015

Laser Technology Inc (LTI), a leading designer and manufacturer of laser-based solutions for professional measurement and mapping, and Robert McClure, President of RAM, an independent blast design consulting firm, will be co-hosting a webinar about serious challenges and viable solutions for the mining and blasting industries on February 25, 2015, at 1000 (MST). According to the National Mining Association (NMA), there is a total of 6 billion tonnes of non-fuel mineral materials mined in the US. The reported statistics are that 97% of these domestic materials were mined and quarried using surface methods, “which persuasively demonstrates the need for safe, effective blast design processes” say LTI and RAM’s McClure, who travels globally as a trainer and consultant for industry leading companies and has acquired the knowledge to solve industry issues and address blast design problem areas.

“Considering the regulations mandated by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the overall liability taken on when using explosives in the vicinity of a residential community, all necessary precautions need to be considered and taken very seriously. It only takes one major accident or serious incident to be dropped by insurance companies and be shut down for good.” The upcoming webinar will cover important safety factors when blasting and how to ensure you are always in full compliance with MSHA. “Explosive engineers and mining professionals only have one shot to get it right, so smart planning is everything. It’s all about designing a good blast to minimise fly rock, manage air overpressure and make the blast as productive as possible. This webinar addresses challenges blasting professionals face and why having a solid plan, the right tools and proper training can make all the difference.”

The webinar will share how mines can use reflectorless measurement and Face Profiler software to calculate bench heights, minimum and optimum burdens, drill hole angles and offsets, hole depths and more to maximise accuracy, safety and time.
