The International Copper Association (ICA) has appointed Anthony (Tony) Lea as its new President. He holds the senior management responsibility for all aspects of the organisation, overseeing the global operations of the extended Copper Alliance™ across six continents. He will continue the process of organisational, strategic and program improvement initiated by ICA’s members in 2014.
He previously served for 12 years as Senior Vice President, Marketing and Strategic Planning, within the ICA, a position that provided him with a unique perspective on the challenges faced in the end-use markets for copper and a wealth of experience in conducting programs to develop and defend copper use. He holds an MBA from Warwick Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Imperial College of Science and Technology, both in the UK.
“I am confident that under Tony’s leadership ICA will continue to provide great value to the copper industry by promoting and defending copper markets and developing a positive image for copper among its wide range of stakeholder communities,” said Jean-Sebastien Jacques, Chairman of the ICA Board of Directors. “On behalf of the ICA Board, I am pleased to welcome Tony into his new position, and I am confident he will lead the ICA as a strong advocate for the copper industry.”
The ICA leads the world’s copper industry on the issues critical to securing copper’s future growth. ICA’s members represent a majority of global copper production, and include many of the largest copper and copper alloy fabricators. ICA’s status as a not-for-profit trade association provides its members with a credible, independent advocate to address challenges faced by the collective industry. ICA increases awareness and use of copper by communicating the unique attributes that make this sustainable element an essential contributor to the formation of life, to advances in science and technology, and to a higher standard of living throughout the world.
The Copper Alliance is a network of regional copper centre and their industry-leading members developed by ICA in 2011. The Copper Alliance is responsible for guiding policy and strategy and for funding international initiatives and promotional activities. With its headquarters in New York, the organisation has offices in four primary regions: Asia, Europe and Africa, Latin America and North America. Copper Alliance programs and initiatives are executed in more than 60 countries through its regional offices and country-level copper promotion centres.
