New Polar P-5070 HVAC series helps manage high temperatures in mining

Posted on 8 Jan 2016

The new rooftop mounted self contained P-5070 Series from Polar Mobility Research is a heavy duty high capacity air conditioning unit for use in the mining and other industries. The company says that the unit is designed for rough environments and extreme high temperature conditions found at mine sites and job sites around the world, with applications including underground mining machines such as trucks, loaders and drills, as well as fixed installations such as refuge stations. “Built to last, the P-5070 is designed to eliminate operator fatigue by creating a comfortable cab environment that is dust free and temperature controlled. It requires very little maintenance because of its robust design and heavy duty construction.”

The unit has a digital automatic control system and high output cooling capacities, with configurations ranging from 24,000 BTUs to over 30,000 BTUs of cooling depending on compressor drive. For example it is capable of 34,000 BTU/hr or 10 kW at 26.7°C wet bulb with cabin air at 35°C ambient. Alterntiavely 24,000 BTU/hr or 7 kW at 50°C ambient. It also has a heating capacity if needed of 3.3 kW or 12,000 BTUs. It has a heavy duty stainless steel construction for vibration and corrosion resistance and measures 71 cm by 89 cm by 46 cm. The cab air flow rate can be controlled manually or set at 490 CFM, 320 CFM or 245 CFM automatically.
