Nyrstar: Formal launch of mining asset sale process

Nyrstar NV has started the sale process for all or the majority of its mining assets. The sale process, which was initially announced in November 2015, is being led by BMO Capital Markets Ltd, Lazard & Co and Lazard BVBA/SPRL .

Nyrstar has received a number of unsolicited expressions of interest for its mining assets from various potential buyers and says it “will seek to engage with all prospective buyers for the mining assets, individually and as a portfolio, to ensure a fair and transparent sales process.”

The sale process is expected to require a period of several months and may or may not result in a sale of all or the majority of Nyrstar’s mining assets.”

Nyrstar is an integrated mining and metals business, with market leading positions in zinc and lead, and growing positions in other base and precious metals. It has mining, smelting, and other operations located in Europe, the Americas, China and Australia.

The mining assets include Campo Morado, Mexico, an underground multi-metal mine  producing zinc concentrate, copper concentrate, silver and gold as byproducts. Contonga and Pucarrajo in Peru are mines. Contonga produces zinc concentrate, lead concentrate, copper concentrate and  Pucarrajo, zinc concentrate and lead concentrate.

The Coricancha mine is an underground poly-metallic mine with more than 60 years of operating history, which comprises a 600-t/d ore processing facility, underground mine and reserves and resources containing gold, silver, zinc, lead and copper. The mine has three main product streams, comprising gold/silver doré, zinc concentrate and lead concentrate high in precious metals. The mine is located some 90 km east of Lima, Peru.

El Mochito mine is located in northwest Honduras near the town of Las Vegas in the Department of Santa Barbara. El Mochito has been in operation since 1948 and has a long history of reserve replacement and promising exploration potential. Products, zinc concentrate, lead concentrate and silver as a byproduct.

El Toqui mine is located 1,350 km south of Santiago, Chile and 120 km northeast of Coyhaique in a region with a well-known history of poly-metallic mineralisation. El Toqui mine has been in operation since 1983 and has products of zinc concentrate, lead concentrate and gold and silver as byproducts.

Langlois mine is located in Bay James Territories, in northwest Québec, approximately 50 km northeast of the town of Lebel-Sur-Quévillon. The mine dates back to 1994 when Cambior was the owner.  Its products are zinc concentrate, copper concentrate, with silver as a byproduct. Also in Canada, Myra Falls mine is located in a provincial park in central Vancouver Island and linked by a 90 km asphalt road to the port of Campbell River. The Myra Falls mine has been in operation since 1966, with output of zinc concentrate, copper concentrate, lead concentrate and silver and gold as byproducts.

The MTN operations consist of three underground zinc mines; Gordonsville, Elmwood and Cumberland and a processing plant, all located in Smith County, Tennessee, USA. The ETN complex consists of a mill and three underground zinc mines; Young, Coy and Immel. The mines are located in and around Knox, Jefferson and Grainger counties.
