BELAZ expanding Indian presence with new mining truck factory

Belaz-Enrika, a joint venture between India’s JVG group and Belarus-based mining truck major, BELAZ, has just opened a repair facility near Nagpur, but is also planning build an assembly unit there, according to a report in The Times of India. The company’s repair facility was recently inaugurated by Belarus Industries Minister Vitali Vovk. The planned assembly unit will cater for the Southeast Asian market, Belaz-Enrika’s Head of Technical Support, Prabhakar Kohale, told the newspaper.

The company has already supplied four 120 t 75135 mining trucks in 2013 to Karnakata Empta, which has a coal mine at Bhadravati in Chandrapur. The repair facility near VCA’s Jamtha stadium is carrying out maintenance of these machines initially. However, there are plans to capture a much larger market through Coal India Ltd’s (CIL) mines, said Kohale, such as at its Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) operations.

The factory will be making 60 and 100 t capacity mining trucks, according to the report, which would include the BELAZ 7555/7557/7558 classes of trucks. Apart from looking to build up business at WCL operations and other mines, the unit planned in Nagpur will also serve markets in China, Mongolia, and the Middle East. BELAZ competitors Caterpillar and Komatsu already have factories in India making these classes of trucks, with the Cat 777D and Komatsu HD785 both being made at factories in Chennai.
