A gold mining operation required an HD camera for a borehole inspection. The basic requirements were that the camera to remain steady and centred, down a 760 m vertical borehole. Inuktun took on the task, the challenges of which were:
- Limits of sending data via copper tether
- Changing specifications
- Enhanced braking system required to handle the weight
The solution developed included a Spectrum 120HD camera. The tethers were developed to provide power via copper and signal via fibre. A spring-loaded centring device accommodates the 200-600 mm hole. Auxiliary lighting was installed for the larger diameter bore.
Inuktun also integrated a digitiser to convert HD video signal for fibre optic transmission and developed enhanced braking and cable controls.
