12th International Symposium on Mining with Backfill

This great symposium will be held February 19-22, 2017, during the week of the SME Annual Conference in Denver Colorado. That week on the evening of February 20, the gala dinner for the International Mining Technology Hall of Fame 2016 inductions will be held in the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver (www.im-halloffame.com).

Minefill is recognized as an integral component of many underground mining operations. The stability of and safety within underground mines are enhanced by the design, operation and control of mine fill systems.

The 12th International Symposium on Mining with Backfill will focus on the application of mine backfill technologies including planning, design, operations and research. Topics covered include:

  • Legal, safety, environmental and financial drivers for backfill
  • Bulkhead capacity and fill strategies
  • Binders, admixtures and other chemicals to improve fill performance
  • Backfill reticulation: pumping, piping, hydraulic analyses
  • Field fill mass blast and stress monitoring before and after exposure and data analysis
  • Mine fill geomechanics, numerical modelling, interaction between backfill and rock mass
  • Laboratory testing on static and dynamic behaviors of backfill
  • Hazard and risk control practices in backfill application
  • Application of new technology and new equipment in mining with backfill
  • Case studies

The symposium will include a proceedings and field trip options.
