Rio Tinto, Cape Lambert power station

RCR Tomlinson Ltd has been awarded a contract by with Rio Tinto for the construction and commissioning of Rio Tinto’s Cape Lambert power station, valued at approximately A$35 million.

RCR will use its in-house engineering and extensive experience in the delivery of large power station projects throughout Australasia to complete this project for Rio Tinto.

RCR’s scope of work includes overall project management, construction (SMP/E&I and minor civil works) and commissioning of an 80 MWe open cycle power plant, at Rio Tinto’s Cape Lambert iron ore operation in Western Australia. Work will commence immediately and is scheduled for completion in October 2017.

The design and procurement of major equipment items for the power station will be supplied by Rio Tinto.

RCR’s Managing Director & CEO, Dr Paul Dalgleish: “The Cape Lambert project is the first win of an improving pipeline of opportunities that we are seeing in the power generation sector. We are currently preferred on a number of other large power projects including gas and solar power stations that are under negotiation. We are pleased to continue our valued relationship with Rio Tinto through this project.”
