QME 2016 summarised by quality and innovation

The Queensland Mining and Engineering (QME) Exhibition 2016 was staged in Mackay last week and after it closed, Reed Exhibitions thanked all those that helped bringing the mining community together for a week-long celebration.

Reed says “attendees and exhibitors alike are describing [it] as more than just displaying innovations but adding beneficial value to visitors through seminar sessions, live demonstrations and networking events.”

Mackay Regional Council Mayor Greg Williamson and Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports, and Minister for Energy, Biofuels and Water Supply, the Hon. Mark Bailey, were both warmly thanked by Reed Mining Events’ Exhibition Director Robby Clark, who welcomed their support for QME.

“In addition to Mayor Williamson and Minister Bailey, we would like to thank all the exhibitors, supporting organisations and strategic partners who have helped bringing the mining community together to celebrate the week-long celebration of mining,” Clark said.

“Despite a smaller event this year on account of the downturn in the mining industry, QME 2016 has generated significant interest from thousands of visitors doing business with just under 200 local, national and international exhibitors.”

Clark further commented, “The feedback we have been receiving from exhibitors is that they have been making the kinds of business connections they had been hoping for, while visitors attending also offered strong value in terms of new business.”

Exhibitors standing out from the crowd included Auxilium, which won the QME Best Product Launch category this year at the QLD Mining Contractor Awards (QMCA) announced at a gala awards dinner.

The awards organised by Bowen Basin Mining Club seek to distinguish Queensland-based products that have made an impact on the industry based on their innovation, ease of application and resourcefulness.

Auxilium’s light tower refurbishment was praised by QMCA judges for its clear scope and success criteria, with comments outlining that the refurbishment showed good innovation, with industry-wide potential to simplify a common issue across many mine sites.

In addition to Auxilium, the finalists in the QME Best Product Launch category this year also included Consolidated Plastics & Epoxy for its ‘Dragola’ Dragline Roller Assembly, Hella for the launch of ZeroGlare to improve operator safety and NSK Australia following the development of its sealed Spherical Roller Bearings.

“To Auxilium, we offer our congratulations for winning the QME Best New Product category and more importantly, for bringing such insight and innovation to the industry with the development of such a useful product,” Clark said.

Some feedback upon the conclusion of QME 2016 included from exhibitor Jason Ng, Marketing Communications Manager at Tyco Fire Protection Products, who said the company had generated quality leads at the show, particularly during the Meet the Buyer program, where they connected with a large mining corporation.

Phill Strahan at ESS Engineering told organisers that QME allowed the team to reconnect with existing clients around the region as well as generate new sales leads, while More Air Group’s Jasmine Anderson said she was very happy with the number and quality of visitors to their stand this year.
