European mining conference & exhibition: second Metallic Mining Hall (MMH) for Seville

Posted on 22 May 2017

Area doubled compared to the first event as a response to exhibiting companies increasing demand for space. II Metallic Mining Hall will be sponsored by MATSA, Cobre Las Cruces, Maxam, Atlas Copco and the Mining Engineering Association of the South of Spain. The Metallic Mining Hall (MMH), to be held at the Seville Conference and Exhibition Centre (FIBES), Spain, October 17-19 2017, will again be an important meeting and networking event for companies and professionals of this sector.

The event organizers have decided to double the capacity of the exhibition area as compared to the first edition, and so there will be two pavilions instead of one as a response to the increasing demand for space expressed by companies and institutions, which do not want to miss this important meeting. More than 90 organizations have confirmed their presence in this second event and more than 60% of them were exhibitors in the first which took place in 2015.

The conference program will revolve around sustainability and the circular economy linked to different aspects affecting metallic mining and other related sectors, such as metallurgy and the iron and steel industry. MMH will also focus on relevant topics like technological progress, environment protection and improvement in processes and performance, thus increasing efficiency in the extraction and treatment of resources. Due regard will be given to a bigger international presence in the scheduled sessions which will be held in two rooms and will be either individual paper presentations or round tables. There will also be workshops on specific matters which will be arranged soon.

More than 70 paper proposals have already been submitted to the MMH’s Scientific Committee, among which some are stand outs from the USA, Canada, Peru, Belgium and the UK.

Mining-related complementary activities to carry out during the event are also being designed aiming at bringing this sector closer to society in general as the services and facilities offered to delegates will as well be expanded, such as a larger parking area or a second cafeteria, among others.

MMH will be fostered, as in its first edition, by the Andalusian Regional Government (Junta de Andalucía); the Association of Extracting, Mining-Metallurgic Transforming and Service Companies, Aminer; the National Confederation of Mining and Metallurgy Companies, CONFEDEM; the Federation of Metal Companies, FEDEME; the Mining Engineering Association of the South of Spain and the Technical Engineering and Degrees in Mining and Energy Association. The most representative figure of the Hall is its Commissioner, a duty taken on again by Francisco Moreno, Chairman of Aminer, who will be supported by four committees that are in charge of defining, developing and coordinating the event: the Executive Committee, the Organizing Committee, the Scientific Committee and the Communication Committee. These groups have the participation of authorities in mining from the main companies of the sector involved in the project. There is also the Honour Committee, whose heads were Their Majesties the King and the Queen of Spain in the first edition.

The First International MMH, held in Seville in November 2015, was an unprecedented event in the country. It attracted more than 10,000 visitors and the presence of 114 exhibiting companies and 700 delegates, as well as 75 papers in its conference. Furthermore, around 100 one-to-one business meetings were arranged, highlighting the capacity of the mining sector to bring about economic and social progress in Andalusia. This was also the best scene to show how the Regional Community has become a worldwide reference through innovation with relevant success stories and it recognised the professional career and personal contribution, by means of the MMH awards, of outstanding figures of the Spanish and Portuguese mining sector, namely Augusto Martínez, Gobain Ovejero and Alfredo Augusto Mendes Franco.

Besides, the first MMH had a very positive economic impact on Seville, generating over €3.5 million directly and around €5 million indirectly. www.mmhseville.com
