RCT develops bespoke teleremote for Thabazimbi dozer

RCT Custom is creating a bespoke solution to improve safety at the Thabazimbi iron ore mine site.

The specialised department will customise the ControlMaster® Teleremote solution for the site’s Komatsu D375A dozer. While the existing solution, met the clients need, they required it to be portable as well as be integrated with a third-party technology.

This customised solution will increase safety by allowing the operator to control the dozer from a safe vantage point.

Sishen Iron Ore Company Proprietary Ltd (SIOC), a subsidiary of Anglo American’s Kumba Iron Ore Ltd, and ArcelorMittal South Africa Ltd (AMSA) announced in 2017 that they had agreed to transfer Thabazimbi mine to AMSA.

Mining operations at Thabazimbi ceased in September 2016 with the remaining employees currently engaged in mine rehabilitation and the preparation and finalisation of the mine closure plan.
