Big BHP Olympic Dam deal for Minetec owner Codan

Minetec, a wholly owned subsidiary of Codan Ltd, provides high-precision tracking, productivity and safety solutions for underground hard-rock mines. Codan states: “After a highly competitive tendering process, Minetec has been awarded the contract to supply BHP’s Olympic Dam mine in South Australia with an underground Fleet Management System, including proximity detection, tracking and task management.” Olympic Dam is a globally important copper, gold, silver and uranium producer.
The contract has a total estimated value of A$9.5 million, with approximately half to be delivered in FY18 and the balance in FY19. “This important milestone validates the competitive position of Minetec’s proprietary mine management solution, developed by Minetec since its acquisition by Codan in 2012.”
The news follows its late March 2018 announcement that it had secured a contract with Boliden for its non‐GPS reliant, surface mining Proximity Detection System. Minetec’s Proximity Detection solution SafeDetect will be first

deployed at the Boliden Kevitsa mine in northern Finland: other site deployments will follow.
