We will be closing the nominations for the International Mining Technology Hall of Fame in August. Do you know of someone who has contributed in an important way, recent or historic, to environmental management and stewardship – water and habitat management, better tailings disposal, improved community relations, etc.? Contact [email protected] about nominations.
The chosen nominees will be inducted at the International Mining Technology Hall of Fame gala dinner at the Hyatt Regency at Colorado Convention Center, Denver on February 25, 2019. The dinner is a key event in the SME Annual Conference week.
The current shortlist has three nominations in this category. The first is for Isabel Weiersbye, University of the Witwatersrand, who has spent almost a quarter of a century conducting applied research pollution control and remediation and mine closure. The second is the team behind Raglan mine’s Wind Turbine & Energy Storage Project (pictured). Finally, there is the Teck team who led the development of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan – an innovative, area-based approach to managing water quality.
The last inductee was Dr John Groom, who was honoured for his work to strengthen mining’s approach to addressing safety, health, environmental and sustainability-related issues across the full mine and materials lifecycles. http://www.im-halloffame.com/environmental-management-stewardship/
