In its Q4 2017 report, Woodside Energy stated that its 90% held Pluto LNG joint venture had approved development of a LNG truck-loading facility on the Burrup Peninsula. The facility will extend existing infrastructure from the onshore processing facility “to provide LNG for distribution within Western Australia. Potential applications include remote power generation and heavy transport fuel.” Start-up of the facility is targeted in H2 2018.
The company gave more details in its full 2017 annual report: “We are promoting the use of LNG as a low-emissions and cost-effective alternative fuel for heavy transport and remote power generation. At Pluto LNG, we are constructing an LNG truck-loading facility. The facility will provide LNG for distribution by truck to the Pilbara region of Western Australia. We are also working with mining companies and equipment manufacturers on the use of LNG for mining operations. We are participating in two joint industry projects to assess the feasibility for LNG to be used as a fuel for bulk carriers transporting iron ore from the Pilbara.”
