In its H1 2018 results, Russia’s Rusal reported that bauxite production increased by 5.4% to 6.28 Mt for the six months ended 30 June 2018 from 5.959 Mt for the six months ended 30 June 2017 due to CBK (Compagne Buaxites de Kindia) restoring its production level to 1.731 Mt following the upgrade of the carriage rolling stock; BCGI (Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc) increasing production by 96,000 t; and the restart of bauxite capacity at Friguia refinery complex in April 2018.
Nepheline syenite ore (used as an alumina feedstock for the Achinsk alumina refinery) production from the Kiya-Shaltyr mine in Krasnoyarsk region increased by 4.7% to 2.269 Mt for the six months ended 30 June
2018 from 2.166 Mt for the six months ended 30 June 2017. The growth was achieved due to the purchase of new mining equipment (excavators, dump trucks, drilling rigs) with the increase of stripping/mining ratio from 1.25 to 1.98.
