With the advent of high capacity and expensive earthmovers, mining operations have to achieve higher productivity in order to justify big investment. Graham Upton, Director of Business Development at Doron Precision Systems will discuss a unique approach to mine equipment operator training at the forthcoming Truck & Shovel conference in Singapore in two weeks time.
Equipment training using simulators greatly improves safety by reducing the accident rate in the mines. This paper will describe a new concept of side-by-side coordinated training. “Multiple drivers and/or operators would train exactly as they would in the actual mine within the same scenario with a common visual terrain database. Technology is now available that allows the database to be deformed and manipulated in realtime as digging, dumping and other operations are performed. As a shovel or excavator operator removes coal or other products, or overburden from the highwall and loads a truck both volumes and weights are depicted and measured.”
Doron’s core offering for mining includes its 700MV™ Haul Truck Driving Simulator, specifically designed for surface mining training. The driving position for the haul truck configuration replicates a typical vehicle in the 300 to 400 ton payload truck class that have set the benchmarks worldwide for high production in most of the world’s larger open pit mines. The driving position is fully equipped with a working set of controls, instruments and switches including operational horns, radios and an adjustable seat.
