OHL to deliver copper sulphide process plant for Mantos Blancos concentrator

OHL has been awarded a new contract in Chile, worth close to 150 million, which includes engineering, construction and commissioning for the conversion and expansion of the copper sulphide processing plant at the Mantos Blancos concentrator, in Antofagasta. The project includes the revamping of the existing oxide line, the construction of part of a new sulphide line and the implementation of new equipment in the filtered and thickened flotation of the existing concentrator plant. The contract has been awarded by the mining company Mantos Copper, dedicated to the extraction and commercialisation of copper, with a production close to 100,000 t of fine copper per year.

The initiative joins others developed by OHL in the country’s mining sector. Highlights include contracts for the development of a copper treatment plant in the Ministro Hales Division; the expansion project of the Tranque Talabre, a tailings dam located in the Chilean city of Calama, or the works achieved in the world’s largest underground copper deposit, the El Teniente mine, among others. In addition, the company has carried out crushing and rhyolite transport work at the Minera Escondida plant near Antofagasta.

In addition to contracts in the mining sector, OHL was recently awarded a new solar PV project valued at 70 million in Chile. The contract includes the construction of the solar photovoltaic  farm “La Huella” which will have an installed power of 89 MW and will serve the region of Coquimbo, in the north of the country.
