XCMG wins order for 240 t truck fleet from coal miner China Energy

XCMG’s push to increase its market share in larger mining equipment is starting to pay off – the company just announced an order for a fleet of its 220 t class XDE240 AC electric drive mining dump truck worth $45 million from China Energy Investment Corp (the former China Shenhua), the world’s largest producer of coal, thermal power, wind power, coal-to-liquids and coal chemical products. XCMG said the “advanced and durable XDE240 with 220 t rated load is designed for large open-pit mines and major earthwork construction.” It is equipped with an MTU 16V4000 engine.

XCMG adds: “The XDE240 electric dump truck is a special product that can meet 5,400m super high altitude plateau requirements. With advanced and reliable design integration and optimisation technology for the whole vehicle, the truck also has an AC drive system [from Wabtec] and analysis & optimisation technology for large complex load-bearing components as well as for stiffness and fatigue failure. The product features all the following advantages: XCMG proprietary intelligent braking system, anti- rear-end collision design, main power lock technology, intelligent weighing and real-time display system for main working state parameters. The vehicle is equipped with automatic weighing system, centralised fire extinguishing system, centralised lubrication system, a GPS system and a variety of safety equipment to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle.”

In other updates on its mining range, the company says its wide body tipper type XDM80 mining truck is now the preferred mining transportation vehicle in the eastern part of China’s Inner Mongolian mining region, and XCMG successfully delivered 100 XDM80 trucks to the Mengdong mine in the region over a two month period earlier this year. It is cited as “the world’s first light mechanical drive truck” with super-durable dumper technology and can adapt to the harsh environments of open-pit mines while guaranteeing efficiency and quality. XCMG says it now provides 50% of the large-tonnage mining equipment operating in the eastern Inner Mongolian mining region. In August 2020, XCMG celebrated production of its 1,000th XDM80 truck having only started production in July 2019.

XCMG also recently announced that it now has over 500 XCMG mining trucks and 200-plus XCMG 70-300 t mining hydraulic excavators in western Inner Mongolia’s Wuhai coal mining region. “Our cooperation with XCMG began with the 70 t small excavator XE700D. At the time, we trusted XCMG for its high quality. Since we heard that XCMG began making large mining excavators, we have been following it. From consulting to purchase, XCMG’s brand and services are first-class,” said the Mining Area Head in Wuhai.

Further afield, XCMG has now delivered a customised fleet of GR2605 graders to Rio Tinto, while activating the manufacturing process of customised GR5505 mining graders for the miner. The GR2605 grader model was also customised for Rio Tinto and XCMG says “marks a new milestone as China’s equipment manufacturing industry advances to serve high-end markets with exacting requirements.”

Greg Courts, General Manager of Purchasing for Rio Tinto China, notes that the success of the GR2605 grader customisation project is the result of the cooperation of both parties and a great achievement, and Rio Tinto believes that XCMG has the capability to produce world-class super-horsepower graders . XCMG says: “Through innovation-driven and excellent quality management, XCMG’s GR5505 has won a stream of orders for super-large mining graders in both domestic and international markets. This model is designed for open-pit mines, heavy load bulldozing and landscape finishing amid other high load conditions.”
