Normet launches new L-size equipment with Volvo Penta Stage V engine & new cabin

Normet launched its new L-size equipment offering, starting with a dump truck, with Volvo Penta Stage V emission class engines on November 3. The Stage V engine technology reduces emissions of diesel particles significantly providing cleaner working environments for people working underground. The prototype was ready mid-April 2020 and since then the machine has been tested at both the Normet factory and the First Quantum polymetallic Pyhäsalmi mine in Finland. The technology is set to be rolled out across Normet’s other product lines as well.

The L-series Stage V offering is equipped with Normet’s new FOPS/ROPS (Falling-Objective Protective Structure/Roll-Over Protective Structure) approved front cabin, which offers “superior visibility, great ergonomics and low noise level, ensuring safe and comfortable driving.” The improvements with the new platform include for example automated retardation control for safe and controlled decline driving and axle suspension which greatly improves driving comfort and equipment durability by reducing vibrations. Safe driving and operation of equipment are ensured by a new control system including machine condition monitoring and data recording systems.

Normet’s new Stage V L-sized platform uses Volvo Penta’s latest, proven Stage V technology. Engine installation design was done in jointly with Volvo Penta to ensure the best possible integration of the engine and the platform for uncompromised safety and performance and easy maintenance. Normet’s plan is to use both, Volvo Penta’s Stage V and Stage 3A engines to streamline its global engine offering. Normet will gradually expand the Stage V offering to other Normet equipment.

Normet says it is continuously developing new technologies to meet and exceed the customer and industry requirements. Normet has equipment covering for all emission classes to cover all emission requirements globally, and in addition Normet offers SmartDrive battery electric equipment with zero local emissions.
