Drillcon establishing new office in Ireland after Boliden commits to drilling contracts for Tara Mines

In 2020, two contracts were signed in Ireland for mine drilling and raiseboring contractor Drillcon AB with Boliden’s zinc operation Tara Mines DAC, which represented a breakthrough for Drillcon in a new geographic market. This is now being followed up with a new framework agreement that extends over a period of three years with the same customer and starts in Q2 2021.

The first agreement covered 12 months of exploration drilling and was signed in August 2020 with work starting shortly after while the second contract agreement covers drilling a ventilation shaft that is 1,000 m deep and 4.5 in in diameter. The work started in February 2021 and is set to be completed in November 2021.

As Drillcon’s local presence in a new geographic market has been further strengthened, the management has decided to establish a new subsidiary, Drillcon Ireland. The ambition is for the company to be legalised in the near future and recruitment of staff for leading positions has therefore now begun.

“Ireland is for Drillcon a new geographic market where we concluded our first historic contract during the third quarter of 2020…the establishment of a new company will in the long run strengthen our presence and increase our competitiveness and give us the opportunity to continue to grow organically, which is in line with our Territory Management strategy,” said Drillcon AB Group CEO Patrik Rylander.
