On November 8, 2021 a delivery ceremony for the first set of Weichai 150 t large mining trucks to the coal miner Shenhua Wuhai was held in Yangzhou. The Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Shandong Heavy Industry Group and the Chairman of Weichai Group Tan Xuguang delivered a “Golden Key” to the Shenhua Wuhai company which is in Inner Mongolia and is part of the world’s largest coal miner, China Energy Investment Corporation (CHN Energy). Weichai said it “has completely broken the international monopoly, demonstrating the company’s confidence and strength in insisting on innovation-driven and technological independence.”

Weichai Special Vehicle is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Weichai Power, the global engine supplier, and has more than 50 years of special vehicle research and development and production history, and is responsible for the development of large-scale mining trucks within the group. In additional to the conventional diesel trucks, the company has also developed a 200 t prototype hydrogen fuel cell & battery powered FCEV truck.

Shenhua Wuhai and Weichai Special Vehicles have already had a long-term cooperation. Since 2018, more than 50 Weichai Special Vehicles 90 t mining trucks have been purchased in batches. “With reliable performance and good economic benefits, it has won high praise from the mine. This time, Shenhua Wuhai chose Weichai’s 150 t mining trucks, which fully reflects the development trend of China’s mining equipment toward a larger scale, and also marks Weichai Group’s advantage in large-scale powertrains, breaking the monopoly of large mining equipment imports…it provides strong support for the large-scale, high-end, and intelligent transportation equipment of China’s mines.”

The 150 t large-scale mining truck model delivered this time has accumulated more than 50,000 hours of trial operation, with a total mileage of more than 360,000 km, and Weichai says delivers a 70% increase in efficiency, and a 10% reduction in unit energy consumption over smaller truck classes. “This product adapts to the general trend of large-scale mining equipment, energy saving, environmental protection, and safe operation. It is equipped with a mining truck gold power system of Weichai Group’s 17-litre engine and 3,300 Nm high torque 8-speed gearbox and 60 t drive axle. The operation effect of replacing two trucks with one, significantly reduces the density of vehicles, greatly reducing operating costs, and brings considerable comprehensive economic benefits to customers.”
