Honeywell has opened a new assembly facility in Almaty for advanced automation and security equipment for complex industrial plants in the mining, oil refining, petrochemical, energy and other sectors in Kazakhstan.

The new facility, as part of Honeywell’s strategy to expand localisation in Kazakhstan, will produce Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS) that integrate distributed control systems and emergency shutdown systems to improve the automation, safety and profitability of complex industrial plants.

Uygar Doyuran, President of Honeywell in Central Asia, Turkey and Israel, said: “Our assembly site in Almaty, the first of its kind for ICSS production in Kazakhstan, provides an additional foundation for expanding in-house manufacturing capacity to create advanced industrial automation systems in the country. This landmark opening underscores our commitment to advancing Kazakhstan’s localisation plans and will provide quick and easy access to advanced automation technologies and critical safety technologies.”

For several years, Honeywell has been working on a project to localize the production of ICSS cabinets in accordance with the Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL3) standard in Kazakhstan. The new facility includes assembly lines for the Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), part of an automated control system that performs real-time automated process control with a high degree of safety and efficiency.

The site also provides Integrated Factory Acceptance Testing (IFAT) to test and validate finished RTUs prior to customer acceptance, and will design software development and documentation work, which will be performed by Honeywell Kazakh employees.

Honeywell has a physical presence in Kazakhstan for more than two decades and has supported the country’s oil and gas industry for more than 40 years, providing advanced technologies in the field of gas production and processing, transportation and deep oil refining.

Today, Honeywell has many of the largest Kazakh enterprises in its customer portfolio, providing them with industrial automation and security solutions, advanced control and process optimisation technologies, and plant automation systems. The customers of the industrial sector are some big Kazakh enterprises such as Tengizchevroil (TCO), Karachaganak Petroleum Operating, KazMunayGas, North Caspian Operating Company, ERG and KAZ Minerals.
