WestStar Industrial gets major rare earths process plant contract from Lynas

WestStar Industrial Ltd, an Australian industrial services company, operating in the energy, resources, utility and infrastructure sectors, has advised that its engineering construction contracting business, Alltype Engineering, has been awarded a new major SMPE&I fabrication and installation contract valued at circa A$33 million by Lynas Rare Earths.

The project value is the largest single contract award in Alltype’s 37 year history – works have commenced immediately and will be completed during FY23. The company states: “This contract further bolsters and contributes to the WestStar FY2023 order book and aligns with Alltype Engineering’s strategic plan to focus and deliver on major turnkey construction projects. This new award brings WestStar’s FY2023 consolidated Group contracted revenue to ~A$120 million.”

Lynas’ new Rare Earths Processing Facility in Kalgoorlie will treat rare earth concentrate from its Mt Weld mine to produce a mixed rare earth carbonate that is packaged and transported to Fremantle Port for export to the Lynas Malaysia advanced materials plant in Gebeng, Malaysia for further processing.

The contract awarded to Alltype Engineering encompasses erection of the Feed Hood building and Stack Support tower; fabrication and erection of the Venturi & Scrubber building, Spray Tower and WESP building; fabrication and erection of stainless steel ductwork; and erection of fibreglass reinforced plastic (FRP) ductwork.

It also includes installation of mechanical equipment including pumps, horizontal agitators, fans, heat exchangers and overhead crane; erection of Venturi, emergency scrubber and other FRP vessels; erection of the FRP Spray Tower and a 65 m FRP Stack; plus installation of all service piping and all electrical and instrumentation works including cabling, infrastructure, and instruments.

The project award further solidifies Alltype Engineering’s recognition as a Tier Two construction
contractor within the mining, mineral processing and resources sector, leveraging off the proven self-execution multidiscipline construction capabilities of the company.

Alltype Engineering’s Managing Director, Kelvin Andrijich: “Our project team has done a fantastic job on the rotary kiln project to date, and we appreciate Lynas’ recognition of this performance and the positive collaboration between our companies, who are both focused on safe and efficient construction of this critical process plant infrastructure.”
