Heralding a major breakthrough in industrial e-vehicle and e-vessel charging, global engineering group Cavotec has launched its ultra-fast Megawatt Charging System (MCS) at the bauma 2022 show in Munich. Providing up to 3 MW of power from a single connector, the MCS is a turnkey DC charging solution with grid-to-inlet functionality that supports the decarbonisation of industrial, including mining, vehicles and ships.
“MCS enables the safe and quick connection of heavy-duty vehicles and ships to electrical power in a reliable, ergonomic unit. As the most powerful system on the market, MCS significantly reduces typical charging times, thereby minimising downtime,” says Jörn Bullert, Vice President Product Management, Charging Solutions.
The MCS has been designed for use with all kinds of heavy-duty vehicles used in a variety of sectors, including mining but also agriculture, construction; and with e-vessels such as ferries. MCS it says “highlights Cavotec’s leading position in the development of large-scale industrial battery charging solutions and technologies that will enable industries to decarbonise and reduce their environmental impact.”
MCS is also a modular solution, featuring either manual or automated connection to the vehicle inlet. It has three different power levels (350 kW, 1 MW, 3 MW) with a active connector and cable cooling system (included in 1 MW and 3 MW chargers) and a vehicle inlet included in the 3MW charger. A specified connector size and minimum weight is used depending on the power level while an advanced power management system incorporates user dashboards and controls the charging process.
