RPMGlobal last week chose IMARC in Sydney, attended by IM, to launch their next generation, mobile asset management solution, AMT Mobile. AMT Mobile is a dedicated application providing field technicians, managers and supervisors the ability to digitise forms and processes while operating remotely. The solution seamlessly integrates with SAP bringing critical corporate data to the workers in the field.
This app can also be used both on and offline making it ideal for underground operations or sites without blanket Wi-Fi coverage. Workers simply go about their daily tasks and when they reach connectivity again AMT Mobile synchronises the data entered throughout the shift.
According to David Batkin, RPM’s Executive General Manager of Product Strategy, this app will transform the way maintenance specialists collaborate, receive, and analyse information. “AMT Mobile puts the information in the hands of the users and takes away the arduous task of filling in paper sheets every shift” he said.
Many processes in mining have long been paper based including asset inspections, safetyinspections and various task lists. This makes reliable data capture, data entry and storage an error prone process.
“It is hard to believe in this day and age we can still rely on an individual filling in their work on a piece of paper, submitting that paper and then having someone else enter that it into a computer,” said Batkin. “AMT Mobile lets you do all of that simultaneously on a mobile device. We all use mobile devices in other aspects of our lives, it makes no sense to rely on archaic systems from decades ago to complete our work,” he said.
AMT Mobile is designed to improve, automate, and digitise inspection and checklist processes in the asset management space. Through this digitisation, it replaces paper-based systems and manual post-activity data entry. Data is instantly available while improving compliance and auditability across the organisation. Real time data capture and entry in a structured manner provides the business with more accurate reporting while satisfying the company’s audit compliance and data storage requirements.
AMT Mobile builds on the industry leading asset management software solution, AMT, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. AMT has been designed exclusively for mining and is used to manage or track over 50% of the world’s large mining equipment by miners, OEMs, dealers and contractors all over the world.
The first generation of AMT mobile utilised HTML technology to access a webpage where a field worker could enter their data. The tool served the industry well for several years; however, this latest release of the application works natively for both Android and iOS systems.
The solution provides notifications where a potential issue or observation about an asset has been identified. Notifications can include items such as breakdown, priority, what may have caused the issue or what damage has already occurred. With the mobile in the hand of the user they can scan QR codes to reach equipment, access the device camera to add photographs as supporting evidence or add voice to text, streamlining the rectification processes that follow.
“Whenever we create something new at RPM we look to make a step change to the way it is currently done and AMT Mobile certainly ticks that box. Completely eradicating a paper-based process is not only a huge win for the users but it is great for the environment too,” said Batkin.
