Roy Hill AHS Director joins ASI Mining as President

The ASI Mining Board of Directors has announced the hiring of Diederik Lugtigheid as President of ASI Mining. Diederik joins ASI Mining from Roy Hill, where he was serving as Director for the AHS implementation at Roy Hill iron ore mine in Western Australia since 2021.

In that role, Lugtigheid worked with ASI Mining and Epiroc to roll out the first fully interoperable Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) into one of the largest iron ore mines in the world. The move attests to the significant progress of the AHS implementation at Roy Hill and signals the continued progress towards full commercialisation of ASI Mining’s AHS program.

Lugtigheid holds a Masters in Science in Mining Engineering from the Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands and a Doctorate in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto, Canada. He has a long history working in mining automation & technology projects for mining companies, OEMs and distributors.

Whilst working at Rio Tinto from 2006 until 2012, he led the team that deployed the first Komatsu AHS fleet into Rio Tinto’s iron ore operations. Subsequently, he also led Caterpillar’s first AHS deployment at FMG’s Solomon mine and later from 2016 until 2021. Diederik also served as the VP of Product Support & the AHS Support Centre for Komatsu in Chile where he oversaw the growth of AHS in the Chilean mining market.

Lugtigheid has officially assumed the role with ASI Mining as of the time of this notice and will be relocating from Perth, Australia to ASI Mining headquarters located in Petersboro, Utah in January 2023.
