WorleyParsons/JESA & Fluor book phosphate fertiliser & chemical work for Ma’aden & SaudiPhos

Saudi mining house Ma’aden has announced the signing of an Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) services contract with WorleyParsons Arabia Ltd and JESA International SA. They will provide EPCM services for the construction of the Phosphate 3 complex Phase 1 project that will produce 1.5 Mt per year of phosphate fertilisers. An integrated production complex will be built in Wa’ad Al Shamal (WAS) and Ras Al-Khair (RAK) industrial cities.

The Phosphate 3 expansion will add 3 Mt of phosphate fertiliser production capacity to Ma’aden portfolio, bringing that to a total production capacity of more than 9 Mt. Ma’aden expects to complete Phases 1 and 2 of the Phosphate 3 complex in 2025 and 2027, respectively. It will make Ma’aden one of the top three global phosphate fertiliser producers and Saudi Arabia the second largest phosphate fertiliser exporter worldwide. The production is based on phosphate rock mined by Ma’aden Phosphate Company (MPC) in Al Jalamid in the Northern Province. Ma’aden’s phosphate mine produces close to 11.6 Mt of ore per year, while the beneficiation plant up to 5 Mt of concentrated phosphate rock per year.

“We are pleased that Worley has been selected for providing services to Ma’aden’s Phosphate 3 development program that is expected to make Saudi Arabia one of the leading phosphate fertiliser exporters worldwide,” said Chris Ashton, Chief Executive Officer of Worley. The services will be executed by JESA’s offices in Morocco and Worley’s offices in Saudi Arabia and India.
