China’s ZOOMLION delivers 80 t capacity wide body hydrogen mining truck to customer

On December 15 2022, the ZOOMLION New Energy Products and Smart Site Conference was held in Changsha with the theme ‘Green Smart Manufacturing Leading a New Future of Double Carbon’ and the latest achievements of Zoomlion in developing new energy technologies and products in response to China’s national double carbon strategy were announced. This relates to China’s aim to to have a peak in carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.

ZOOMLION showcased both new energy mainframe products and new key core components. Among them, its mining equpiment division ZOOMLION Mining Machinery displayed two of its new energy mining trucks – first the ZT105EV pure electric mining truck, with a load capacity of 72 t, which builds on its previous ZT118EV electric model. It says it adopts “a mature chassis and industry-leading triboelectric technology, high-capacity high-density lithium iron phosphate battery, long range and zero emission, dual motor configuration, strong power, efficient energy recovery, and energy-saving effect of over 80% under suitable working conditions.”

Second is the all new ZT125FCEV hydrogen energy mining truck which is the first large tonnage hydrogen powered wide-body mining dump truck independently developed by Zoomlion, with a load capacity of 80 t. The truck is equipped with two 120 kW high-performance hydrogen fuel cells, which are described as highly engineered and mature, with a maximum efficiency of 65% and hydrogen consumption lower than the industry average, significantly reducing the operating costs of the vehicle. The first FCEV unit was then delivered to the launch customer on January 29th.

The hydrogen fuel cell converts the chemical energy of hydrogen directly into electricity through an electrochemical reaction. To achieve energy recovery and further reduce energy consumption, the vehicle is also equipped with a 120 kWh battery pack, which can achieve a high rate of charging and discharging. ZOOMLION says it is 80% more energy-efficient than diesel vehicles under heavy-duty downhill working conditions, and more than 20%-30% more energy-efficient than conventional fuel vehicles under general working conditions.

The company stated: “It is the solemn commitment of ZOOMLON Mining Machinery to contribute to the national dual carbon strategy and help build green mines. By laying out the green development strategy, actively promoting green innovation development, and continuously developing new energy machines and key components to realise the value creation and common development of the enterprise, customers, society and the environment, and finally achieving harmonious and sustainable development, ZOOMLION Mining Machinery has formed a comprehensive green development path.”
