First batch of HPGRs heading out of Ennigerloh as part of FLSmidth

A key part of the acquisition of TK Mining by FLSmidth was bringing in TK’s installed base of HPGRs in mining plus its market leading HPGR technology – FLSmidth says the design has been proven in the market to offer up to 20% increased throughput capacity, 15% energy savings, and as much as 30% extended roll life so it is also helping FLSmidth progress its MissionZero goals.

The former TK Mining HPGR R&D hub, assembly and service center is located in Ennigerloh, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and is now part of FLSmidth. This is where the POLYCOM HPGR and the latest HPGR Pro development was carried out, which is now the main FLSmidth offering in this growing comminution technology market.

Ralf Martens, the FLSmidth Head of Service Center at Ennigerloh recently stated that the first batch of 5+1 HPGRs of PM8 size 24/17 had been completely assembled and ready for shipment. The machines are going to a major customer in central Asia. Each set includes also the material feed unit and passed successfully the Factory Acceptance Test by the customer’s representative by end January 2023 in line with contractual obligations. This PM18 size has a roll diameter of 2,400 mm, a roll width of 1,650 mm and a grinding force of 17,000 kN. It has 2 x 2,800 kW motors, a length of 7,725 mm and width of 3,820 mm.

Martens added: “So for our local Service Center team in Germany all the additional effort to compensate delays in material supplies paid off – we made it! That’s what our FLS Service Centers around the world are aiming for every day: deliver highest quality in time in order to keep our clients satisfied and ensure safe production on their sites. That’s what we all service.”

Rotating side-plates are the key to the enhanced performance delivered by HGPR Pro. Wear segments on the side-plates can be removed or adjusted without removing the rollers. This simplifies – and therefore speeds up – maintenance to reduce non-productive time.

Another unique feature of the HGPR Pro is a mechanical locking device to limit misalignment of the moveable roller. It allows the rollers to adjust to feed conditions and maintain uniform pressure, while ensuring critical limits are not exceeded and protecting the rotating side-plates. The result FLSmidth says is higher-quality product with fewer machine outages and downtime.
