Becker-Warkop powers ahead in roof support supply with four sets delivered in US since 2022

Posted on 2 Jan 2025

In recent years, Becker-Warkop has been actively manufacturing Powered Roof Supports (PRS) for both domestic and US longwall markets. The company has already delivered 439 units, including 54 PRS units for Arch Resources’ Leer operation in West Virginia and commenced with the first deliveries of 193 PRS for Warrior Met’s newly constructed Blue Creek operation in Alabama.

This success is a result of several years of cooperation between Becker-Warkop and its manufacturing partner, Hydrotech, along with Becker Global America in the USA, and Komatsu, which provided the PRS design services and electrohydraulic controls for the Arch and Warrior Met projects.

Delivery of the current contract to Blue Creek will be the third set produced for the Alabama-based customer, Warrior Met Coal, and the fourth in total for the US market since 2022.

Becker-Warkop, founded in 1991 in Poland, is part of the Becker Mining AG group, and as a subsidiary is responsible for engineering and manufacturing Powered Roof Support and Transport Systems for mining. At Becker-Warkop, all processes happen under one roof – from design to production to service. The company says it places great emphasis on quality workmanship which is largely achieved by maintaining long-standing relationships with employees in skill-intensive positions such as welding and machining.

At the same time, in addition to current projects related to the production and supply of powered roof supports, through continuous research and development, Becker-Warkop adds that it innovates year after year in the field of mining transport systems, resulting in new electric drive solutions for monorail systems, and thus new projects in mining and tunnelling, expanding know-how and experience.
