RSGx takes 80% interest in Perth-based BEC Engineering

Posted on 28 Feb 2025

Mechanical and electrical engineering and construction firm RSGx has acquired an 80% interest in Perth-based BEC Engineering.

The deal continues RSGx’s expansion into the energy transition sector, capitalising on the increasing private and public demand in Western Australia for power transmission infrastructure to meet decarbonisation targets and to support new minerals mining and processing projects.

Established in 1996 and headquartered in Perth, BEC Engineering is an engineering firm with about 50 employees.

RSGx Group Executive Director, Kris Caplice, said BEC Engineering would continue to operate under its own name as part of the RSGx Group.

“BEC is hugely respected in WA and nationally,” Caplice said. “We will support its continued growth, introducing BEC to our existing customer base, expanding to the East coast, and supporting the introduction of additional services to BEC’s current portfolio.

“Operating together, we can ensure that our clients receive the best and most innovative solutions right the way through the electrical asset lifecycle, from design, through construction, commissioning, and maintenance. An end-to-end solution.”

All BEC management will remain, with Managing Director, Mike Drake-Brockman, continuing to lead the BEC team.

“Having worked together over the past few years, I know RSGx is a perfect fit for us and will ensure we continue to grow,” Drake-Brockman said. “We are committed to delivering the same exceptional services to our clients with whom we have built a trusted relationship over the past 30 years.

“Combining our expertise means that between the two companies, we can offer a complete range of services with cost efficiencies that will benefit our clients.

“The WA market is strong, but we also see other opportunities nationally, and being a part of the RSGx Group gives us the ideal platform from which to expand.”

RSGx is Sydney headquartered with a major office in Perth which oversees activity across Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. It acquired Allied Power in a similar deal in 2023. RSGx, Allied Power, and BEC will relocate to a new 800 sq.m facility in Burswood. Together, the companies will employ 230 people in WA.

The companies have a list of clients, including Fortescue, Westgold, AngloGold Ashanti, Water Corp, BHP, Newmont, Rio Tinto and Lynas Rare Earths.
