Posted on 24 Apr 2025

LXML Sepon has announced the addition of a new Sandvik two boom DD421 jumbo drill rig to the Sepon underground gold-copper mine in Laos. The introduction of this equipment it says will support the Sepon mine in continuously improving production efficiency, providing strong support for the production targets of 2025 and beyond.

This newly introduced jumbo drill rig is the third piece of equipment of the same model in the Sepon mining area and is expected to bring Sepon’s drill rig fleet to an industry-leading equipment availability rate of 85%. The new equipment will ensure the continuous and stable operation of the mining area, thereby guaranteeing the reliability of drilling operations.

LXML stated: “With its stability and ease of operation, this jumbo drill rig is perfectly suited to the complex working conditions of the Sepon underground mine, particularly in the water-rich environment. The new equipment is expected to significantly improve underground mining efficiency by allowing earlier access to production areas, which will, in turn, increase ore production upon commissioning and further consolidate production capacity advantages. Furthermore, this decision aligns with our fleet strategy of achieving efficient maintenance through a common model spare parts inventory, ensuring production progress while maintaining operational flexibility.”

Sepon adds thats it is consistently committed to ensuring the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of mining operations through modern technology and innovative practices.
