Macmahon’s Decmil to deliver Eva Copper Mine accommodation village

Posted on 15 May 2025

Macmahon Holdings Limited says its wholly-owned subsidiary, Decmil, has been awarded two new contracts, adding approximately A$80 million ($51 million) to Macmahon’s secured order book.

Included within this is a a contract to deliver Eva Copper Mine Pty Ltd’s new Operations Permanent Village at the Eva copper mine in Queensland, Australia, adding approximately A$70 million to Macmahon’s secured orderbook.

The project involves the design and construction of a 454-person accommodation village, including accommodation units, central facilities, water and wastewater treatment plants, internal roads, drainage, bulk earthworks, services installation and associated infrastructure.

Works are set to commence in mid-2025, with completion expected in 2026.

Macmahon’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Michael Finnegan, said: “Decmil has a strong track record of delivering accommodation camp design and construction projects across Australia and we are looking forward to working with the Eva Copper Mine
team on the construction of their on-site accommodation village.”

The Eva Copper Mine was acquired by Harmony Gold Mining in December 2022. The transaction included 100% of the project and 16 exploration tenements, extending Harmony’s diversification into copper. It is an iron oxide copper gold resource poised to become the largest copper mine in northwest Queensland. It is located on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon People, 75 kilometres north of Cloncurry and 95 kilometres north-east of Mount Isa.

Since acquiring the project, Harmony has identified opportunities to enhance the asset and its contribution to stakeholders, including through the introduction of renewable power and an optimised design that could potentially deliver greater production volumes.

Harmony says the project has the potential to be a long-life conventional open-pit mine with copper concentrator producing a highly saleable copper concentrate.
