Posted on 11 Jun 2025

On June 10, Chinese mining equipment major XCMG and BHP, the world’s top resource company, signed a new framework agreement at XCMG’s HQ in Xuzhou, opening “a new era of strategic cooperation in the field of green and smart mines based on the highly compatible concepts of technological innovation and sustainable development.”

According to the framework agreement, the two sides will deepen cooperation in multiple dimensions such as joint equipment research and development, full life cycle management, and localised service system construction.

XCMG will fully utilise its expertise in the R&D and manufacturing of large-scale mining equipment, and work with BHP to explore and develop sustainable equipment that meets the highest international technical standards, safety norms and sustainability. It says the development of green and intelligent mine equipment is required to jointly create a new generation of mine operation systems that are safe, efficient and environmentally friendly.

Yang Dongsheng, Chairman of XCMG, said that it is a global supplier of intelligent and green mine construction solutions, which is continuously empowering global mine customers and gradually gaining recognition in the international high-end market. XCMG he said will use “engineering technology leadership” to explore a new future of sustainable development of green mines with BHP, and jointly set a new example of global mining cooperation.

Rashpal Bhatti, BHP Group Procurement Officer, said: “Our cooperation with XCMG is a key initiative for BHP to work with strategic suppliers to promote the future development of mining technology. Combining our operational experience with XCMG’s innovative capabilities to provide strong support for a safer and more sustainable mining fleet solution is an important step in BHP’s overall drive to reduce emissions from its operational assets.”

Thanks to this cooperation, XCMG says it has further accelerated the pace of transformation and upgrading from product export to technical standards export and service program export. XCMG “will fully utilise the combined strengths of technological research and development and industrial chain to provide integrated mine solutions for BHP’s global business operations. This will help the entire mining industry to develop to a high-end, intelligent and green direction.”

The two sides agreed that they will use this cooperation as a new starting point, continue to deepen cooperation in key areas such as technological innovation and standard setting, jointly address industry challenges, and create a good future of mutual benefit and win-win.
