Liebherr-Australia’s Perth facility fabricates its 100th bucket

Posted on 30 Jun 2025

In April 2025, the fabrication team at Liebherr-Australia’s Perth facility in Western Australia celebrated its 100th bucket fabrication, with the milestone bucket delivered to an iron ore operation in the Pilbara region to be fitted to an R 9600 excavator.

David Shaddick, Fabrication Supervisor for Liebherr-Australia’s Perth operation, said: “This milestone is more than just a number – it’s a symbol of sustained excellence. Each bucket has represented countless hours of planning, hands-on expertise and a shared belief in doing things the right way. Guided by the team’s core philosophy, ‘Do it once, do it right and make it last’, the team has delivered every rebuild to the highest standard, meeting strict timelines, budget targets and performance expectations.”

What began with a single reused bearing block 10 years ago and a small team of 12 has evolved into a legacy of precision and performance, Liebherr says.

Today, Liebherr-Australia’s Perth facility provides comprehensive aftersales support services to customers throughout Western Australia. The team not only repairs and refurbishes components for Liebherr’s entire range of excavators but also supports Liebherr mining trucks and dozers in the region. As well as this, the Perth facility supports customers through general works, internal boom inspections and repair and expert advice for onsite repair and maintenance needs.

Over the past decade, the Perth team – which today totals 25 permanent staff, including five apprentices – has maintained an impeccable record with zero major reworks or failures, highlighting the integrity of their processes and the strength of their work quality, the company says.

Jonathan Craig, Service Manager for Liebherr Australia’s Perth operation, said: “This 100-bucket milestone stands as a testament to the team’s innovation, resilience and passion for delivering lasting value to customers. It also reflects Liebherr-Australia’s broader commitment to supporting the life cycle of mining equipment; maximising productivity, minimising downtime and ensuring sustainable outcomes across operation.”
