In certain mining situations involving large tonnage bulk commodities mining with long hauls and no significant gradients, bottom-dump/rear-dump haulers or Kress haulers offer a highly efficient and cost effective option. And here, the Chinese OEMs also have options for the global market.

China’s Nantong Rainbow Heavy Machinery Co Ltd (RHM) in June 2025 successfully delivered a 215 t class rear-dump bauxite trailer to Rio Tinto’s Amrun mine on Cape York Peninsula, Queensland, Australia to help optimising bauxite transportation operations.

RHM is part of GENMA, based in Nantong, Jiangsu; GENMA being an international brand owner of material lifting and handling solutions, integrating independent R&D, design, sales and after-sales services. With a network of manufacturing partners worldwide, its main production bases in China include Nantong Rainbow Heavy Machinery Co Ltd, Jiangsu Rainbow Industrial Equipment Co Ltd and Nantong Rainbow Intelligent Equipment Co Ltd. It is mainly known for harbour and gantry cranes; plus ship loaders and unloaders; and offshore cranes.

The bauxite trailer is equipped with an automatic unloading function and is designed to improve customer on-site operation efficiency. Compared with the traditional rear-dump truck configuration, the innovative unloading system significantly shortens the unloading cycle. GENMA says this solution will optimise bauxite transportation operations and lay a solid foundation for continued production increases.

At the delivery ceremony, Armando Torres, Managing Director of Rio Tinto Pacific Aluminum, and Steve Badenhorst, Chief Operating Officer of Rio Tinto Pacific Aluminum, praised Rainbow Heavy Machinery’s strong supply chain reliability and comprehensive project execution capabilities.

A statement from GENMA said the successful commissioning of the trailer demonstrates the strong strategic partnership between Rio Tinto and Rainbow Heavy Machinery, and also reflects the joint commitment of both parties to operational efficiency and technological innovation

GENMA: “This achievement is a strong proof of the cooperation between the two parties, demonstrating Rainbow Heavy Machinery’s international contract performance capabilities, and is an important milestone in China-Australia high-end equipment cooperation. Looking forward to the future, Rainbow Heavy Machinery and Rio Tinto will expand cooperation and jointly develop innovative mining solutions. The deepening of this alliance will inject strong impetus into the continued development of the bauxite industry.”
