The MMD Centre of Excellence, part of the MMD Group, has joined Global Mining Guidelines Group (GMG), reinforcing its commitment to advancing autonomous mining systems, battery-electric technologies, and digital innovation through industry collaboration.
As the mining industry accelerates the adoption of automation, electrification, and digitally enabled operations, collaboration across stakeholders is increasingly important. Through its membership with GMG, the MMD Centre of Excellence will contribute technical expertise and operational insights to industry-led initiatives focused on developing practical guidance, best practices, and frameworks that support the successful implementation of emerging technologies.
The membership aligns with the Centre of Excellence’s commitment to advancing autonomous and electric mining solutions through collaboration and knowledge sharing. Participation in GMG provides opportunities to contribute practical experience, support the development of industry guidance, and engage with stakeholders across the mining value chain to help address common challenges associated with technology adoption.
“We are excited to join GMG and contribute to the development of industry guidance around autonomy and electric vehicle use in mining,” said James Percy-Hughes, Head of Operations at TraxIQ. “Both areas are evolving rapidly, and participation in GMG allows us to collaborate with industry peers, share practical experience, and help shape approaches that support safe, effective, and reliable implementation across the sector.”
By joining GMG, the MMD Centre of Excellence becomes part of a global network of mining companies, OEMs, technology providers, researchers, and industry leaders working together to address common challenges and accelerate innovation.
“The mining industry is navigating a period of rapid technological change, and collaboration has never been more important,” said Andrew Scott, Interim CEO at GMG. “The MMD Centre of Excellence’s expertise in autonomous and electric mining solutions will strengthen industry discussions and help advance the development of practical guidance that supports safe, efficient, and sustainable operations across the sector.”
Through active participation in GMG projects and working groups, the MMD Centre of Excellence aims to contribute practical expertise while collaborating with industry peers to help shape the future of mining technology adoption and support the industry’s transition toward more productive, resilient, and sustainable operations.
