Industrial services provider Bilfinger has been awarded a significant contract by Gübretaş Maden Yatirimlari A.S., covering the phase 2 expansion of the Söğüt Gold Mine in Bilecik, Türkiye.
Executed by Bilfinger’s recently acquired Teknokon Endüstri Tesisleri İnsaat ve Montaj A.S., a team of up to 650 people will deliver the full expansion scope including mechanical installations, electrical, instrumentation & control services (EI&C), and insulation work for a new processing facility. The contract marks a major milestone on Bilfinger’s strategic expansion journey in Segment International, which bridges its Eastern Europe and Middle East activities.
The Söğüt Gold Mine is located in the Bilecik Province in northwestern Türkiye and represents one of the country’s most significant gold deposits. Gübretaş, a leading Turkish company with roots in the fertiliser industry, is developing the site as part of its strategic diversification into mining operations. The phase 2 development will introduce new processing facilities and significantly increase the site’s production capacity. In the new plant, underground ore will be crushed, ground, and processed through flotation and pressure filtration stages to extract gold concentrate from the raw material.
The recently awarded contract builds directly on the successful collaboration of both companies for phase 1 in 2022. Under challenging time constraints, Bilfinger (back then Teknokon) delivered the initial expansion scope, which included prefabrication and installation works for an existing facility, in just eight months – a fast-track achievement that was recognised at the opening ceremony attended by the President of Türkiye.
“Throughout phase 1, our partner has demonstrated exceptional capabilities in delivering a complex modification scope under demanding conditions. We are confident that this partnership will continue to yield outstanding results as we further expand our capacities at Söğüt,” says Ahmet Konca, Engineering and Investment Director, Gübretaş.
“This major contract underlines how Bilfinger successfully drives its market expansion strategy in promising adjacent geographies and markets – in line with our vision to be No. 1 for customers in enhancing efficiency and sustainability,” says Christian Rugland, Segment President International at Bilfinger. “With the recent closing of the acquisition, we have welcomed a team of highly skilled colleagues with a proven track record in mining. We are committed to support Gübretaş with the continued dedication and expertise that this trusted partnership is built on.”
Over a period of 24 months and commencing June 2026, Bilfinger’s team will be responsible for the implementation of a new processing facility, encompassing civil engineering, structural steel erection, mechanical and EI&C installations, insulation and commissioning activities. At peak times, up to 650 employees will be deployed on site to ensure efficient execution.
