Caterpillar autonomous 794 AC fleet at Quellaveco passes 500 Mt hauled milestone

Posted on 24 Jun 2026

Caterpillar has recognised Anglo American for achieving 500 Mt of autonomously hauled material at its Quellaveco copper operation in Moquegua, Peru, a milestone that Caterpillar and Ferreyros say reflect a sustained commitment to innovation, operational discipline, and collaborative work. For Ferreyros, Caterpillar’s representative, this achievement marks a significant achievement in the digital transformation of mining in Peru.

Quellaveco operates the first fleet of autonomous mining trucks in the country, currently comprised of 34 Cat 794 AC units, which contribute to national copper production. The trucks have been operating since 2021 using the Cat MineStar Command for hauling solution.

“These results are an inspiration for Peru and demonstrate a firm commitment to safe, efficient, and productive mining. At Ferreyros, we are honored to support Quellaveco with cutting-edge technology and the expertise of our team,” stated Santiago Basualdo, Ferreyros’ Central Manager of Large-Scale Mining.

Ferreyros reported last year that Anglo American has been achieving exceptional operational results at Quellaveco with the use of Caterpillar autonomous equipment, highlighting the high utilisation and physical availability at the mine.

As a testament to the multiplier effect of Quellaveco, more than 400 Ferreyros employees provide 24/7 services at this world-class operation, encompassing maintenance, component repair, spare parts warehousing, planning, and condition monitoring. It should be noted that Ferreyros provides comprehensive support for the autonomous trucks, shovels, and entire auxiliary fleet at Quellaveco, as well as for the Cat technologies used in both autonomous and manned equipment.

Worldwide, hundreds of mining trucks of varying load capacities utilise Caterpillar’s autonomous technology, which enhances safety, boosts productivity, and employs advanced systems to operate in any condition, including rain, dust, and fog. With 103 years of experience, Ferreyros is the leading machinery company in Peru and has been Caterpillar’s representative in the country since 1942.
