Leading wide body mining truck manufacturer Tonly reports a major breakthrough in Indonesia with a fleet of its trucks beginning operation at the flagship Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) mining operation in Sangatta, East Kalimantan. Tonly said this marks the first time that a Chinese wide body truck brand has gained access to Indonesia’s premier coal mining operation.
KPC is controlled by Bumi Resources. As Indonesia’s top open-pit coal mine block, KPC boasts an approved annual production capacity of 70 Mt with a steady actual annual output of over 53 Mt. It is a very large mining site with the strictest supplier access thresholds across southeast Asia. The Tonly fleet is of its DT95R diesel wide body truck model which offers a 70 t payload. The trucks are being operated by leading mining contractor Darma Henwa.
Tonly: “This successful deployment sets multiple industry-first milestones and represents another core strategic objective for Tonly to explore Indonesia’s high-end mining market. It demonstrates that Chinese wide body dump trucks are now competing head-to-head against world-leading international mining truck brands on an equal footing. Moreover, this breakthrough creates greater opportunities for the future rollout of Tonly’s other diversified businesses in the region.”
Beyond the diesel-powered DT95R wide-body mining trucks deployed at the KPC project, Tonly’s all electric variant the DTE95 has also entered mass production and has been delivered to multiple mining sites including in Europe.
It is the industry’s first pure electric wide body truck with wide-base tyres. Wide-base tyres Tonly says significantly reduce ground pressure, increasing ground clearance and making it easy to traverse soft roads. The chassis is compatible with various autonomous driving solutions and supports precise formation dispatch.
Backed by years of R&D experience in new energy mining equipment, Tonly says its electric mining trucks deliver superior adaptability to complex mine scenarios, including steep heavy-load haulage, long-distance transportation and muddy open-pit conditions. “Capable of sustaining high-intensity continuous operation, our electric fleets fully satisfy global mining’s strict requirements for energy conservation, emission reduction and low-carbon mining transformation.”
