Maelgwyn and Multotec host Barrick delegation training visit

From November 26 to 29 2024, Maelgwyn Mineral Services Africa (MMSA) and the Multotec Group of Companies hosted a new initiative bringing mineral processing experts together with the mining industry for in-depth training and discussion. The first-ever Barrick Training Visit united metallurgists from Loulo, Kibali, North Mara, and Bulyanhulu, combining theoretical and practical training, and fostering professional growth across the Barrick operations.

The first two days at Maelgwyn Mineral Services Africa featured expert-led sessions on Aachen reactor operations and laboratory testwork methodology by Wiehan Botes; cyanide analysis, control, and detox testwork by Peter Lotz; oxygen uptake rate methodologiesby Mutshidzi Singo; advanced laboratory capabilities by Sonestie Janse van Rensburg and alternative lixiviants in mining by Peter Lotz

The final two days at Multotec Group of Companies offered hands-on learning through facility tours and training in screening, milling, and liners as well as cyclones and samplers.

Maelgwyn states: “This collaboration exemplifies the power of knowledge sharing and technical partnerships in tackling industry challenges, ensuring that teams walk away equipped with the latest tools and insights to enhance operations.”

MMSA’s Metallurgical Laboratory was established in 2009 and conducts commercial mineral processing and metallurgical testwork for process design/development purposes, including the application of Maelgwyn’s proprietary technologies and processes right through to bankable feasibility stage work.

Its metallurgist team are specialists in commercial mineral processing and metallurgical testwork for flowsheet design and process circuit optimisation, including the application of Maelgwyn’s proprietary technologies and processes in gold, base metals, PGMs and other commodities. The company states: “Our metallurgists will collaborate with you to effectively develop an extraction process, align process optimisation strategies, plan and execute pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for a range of ores.”
