Serbia Zijin Copper has recently completed a successful trial run of its first fleet of fully-electric haul trucks at its Novo Cerovo mine, in Serbia, marking a significant step toward supporting Zijin Mining’s carbon neutrality goals and building a greener mining operation.
Weighing 110 t, each truck has a load capacity of 70 t and a loading volume of 40 cu.m. With a top speed of 45 km/h and the ability to fully charge in just 80 minutes, these trucks are designed for both efficiency and reliability.
Under downhill road conditions, a heavily loaded truck can complete up to 40 trips on a single charge, according to the company. Additionally, with a battery lifespan of over six years and zero exhaust emissions, these trucks offer significant advantages over traditional diesel-powered counterparts, Zijin says.
While Zijin did not confirm the make and model of the trucks used, the press release did include images of several Shaanxi Tonly Heavy Industries TLE105s.
Serbia Zijin Mining owns four copper mines – Veliki Krivelj, Novo Cerovo, Jama and Copper Mine Majdanpek, the limestone mine and the smelter.
