Pronto AHS for 100+ Heidelberg trucks; plus more Komatsu collaboration

Posted on 24 Feb 2025

Pronto, the Silicon Valley-based autonomous technology pioneer, has announced an agreement with Heidelberg Materials, one of the world’s largest integrated manufacturers of building materials and solutions, to deploy Pronto’s Autonomous Haulage System (Pronto AHS) to over 100 trucks operating at Heidelberg Materials sites worldwide over the next three years. Pronto will also become Heidelberg Materials’ exclusive provider of autonomous technologies in North America under the agreement.

In addition, as part of Komatsu’s recent Quarry Days 2025, the global mining equipment OEM had a live demo of its HD605-10 truck, featuring Smart Quarry Site, its quarrying/small to mid sized mine total fleet management solution, and Pronto’s AHS. Komatsu had partnered with Australia-based FMS tech company iVolve to develop Smart Quarry Site, then went on to acquire iVolve in late 2023. Smart Quarry Site solution allows operators and site managers to pull data covering productivity, machine health, operator efficiency and everything a quarry operator needs to know, including idling and sustainability measures – all in real time.

Pronto’s AHS cooperation with Komatsu is developing in the quarrying class, and during the same Quarry Days event, Pronto stated that its AHS is currently operational on Komatsu’s HD605 and HD785 platforms, and that it will soon support all Komatsu rigid HD and articulated HM base trucks. This would include all of Komatsu’s rigid mechanical drive trucks up to the HD1500. The HM trucks are the HM300 and HM400 articulated dump trucks (ADTs). On electric drive rigid trucks, covering the 730E up to the 980E, Komatsu uses its own FrontRunner AHS together with its Modular DISPATCH® FMS.

Pronto AHS utilises advanced artificial intelligence combined with a hardened camera system, “avoiding costly, complex sensor technologies such as radar and LiDAR,” resulting in a system that can be deployed in a matter of weeks and Pronto says at a fraction of the cost of competitive systems.

Back to the landmark deal with Heidelberg and Axel Conrads, Chief Technical Officer and Member of the Managing Board of Heidelberg Materials stated: “Implementing industry leading technologies across our global footprint is an important driver of operational excellence and digital innovation at Heidelberg Materials. We are pleased to partner with Pronto who stood out to us by delivering a reliable solution that will contribute towards improving our production efficiency, enhancing the safety of our employees, and accelerating our sustainability efforts.”

“We set out to develop an AHS that could deliver industry-leading safety, performance, and economics in the quarry market,” said Anthony Levandowski, CEO of Pronto. “Earning Heidelberg Materials’ trust to go global with Pronto AHS is an incredible validation of our product and confirms that we have accomplished those goals.”

The global agreement follows the 2023 pilot of Pronto’s technologies at Heidelberg Materials’ quarry in Bridgeport, Texas, and the subsequent deployment of Pronto AHS at Heidelberg Materials’ quarry in Lake Bridgeport, Texas on a mixed OEM fleet of haul trucks, which Pronto believes to be the first autonomous mixed fleet to enter production in North America. The success of those deployments led to today’s partnership, which once fully implemented, will result Pronto says in it becoming the leading global non-OEM provider of Autonomous Haulage Systems.
