Thiess says it has been awarded a three-year contract extension with a three-year extension option, with QCoal at its Northern Hub operation in Queensland, Australia.

With revenue of A$590 million ($371 million) over three years, this contract sees the company continuing to provide full mining services at QCoal’s Northern Hub, including statutory control of the site, all mining activities, maintenance and asset management, and rehabilitation works.

Thiess Executive Chair and CEO, Michael Wright, said: “Thiess is proud to continue our work with QCoal at their Northern Hub operation, extending our long term relationship focussed on providing safe and efficient mining operations, and progressive rehabilitation.”

Thiess Group Executive – Australia East, Rae O’Brien, said: “Thiess has been part of the Collinsville community since 1995, supporting the local economy and community, and providing employment opportunities within the region. Our work at QCoal Northern Hub commenced almost 20 years ago in 2007, and Thiess is pleased to have this opportunity to continue working in the region alongside QCoal.”

The QCoal Northern Hub is comprised of three mines – Sonoma, Drake and Jax – that produce a mix of hard coking coal and thermal coal. Production comes in at around 6 Mt/y, according to QCoal.
