MTG boosts operational time of front shovel mining GET attachments

Posted on 13 Jun 2025

MTG has expanded its ground engaging tool (GET) options, adding a new MTG SYSTEMS/TWINMET intermediate adapter and PROMET lip shroud variants for front shovel (FS) in mining.

The company says these solutions are suitable for heavy mining excavators with an operating weight of 250-700 t, with their improved material distribution for such applications resulting in more wear material at the bottom to provide longer operational time while providing the same penetration capabilities as backhoe options.

The MTG SYSTEMS/TWINMET adapter is available in sizes TM3/2 and TM5/6 and come with around 11% more wear material at the bottom.

The TM3/2 is suitable for cast and plate lip excavators with an operating weight of 250-500 t such as the Komatsu PC4000 or  Caterpillar 6050, while the TM5/6 is suitable for cast lip excavators with an operating weight of 350-700 t – for example the Komatsu PC5600 or Caterpillar 6060 models. Both come with the same locking pin and retainer as the backhoe versions.

The new PROMET variants are available for lip thickness of 160 mm, and have an optimised shape and wear material distribution to offer more wear material aligned to the front part of the lower leg, MTG says. The set consists of central, delta-left, and delta-right lip shrouds. The shrouds incorporate a wear indicator and are compatible with the PROMET III locking.

The company says they are suitable for plate lip excavators with an operating weight of 250-500 t such as the Komatsu PC4000 or Caterpillar 6050 models.
