Tonly deploys hybrid 91 t class mining truck fleet to contractor R&D in Brazil

As a pioneer and leader in the off-highway wide-body dump truck industry, Tonly Heavy Industries maintains a global market presence, with over 70,000 units in operation worldwide and more than 8,000 units delivered to overseas markets. In the new-energy mining transport sector, the company says that one out of every two new-energy units in the industry coming from Tonly.

In recent years, riding the wave of global carbon neutrality and seizing opportunities for the green, low-carbon, and intelligent upgrading of the global mining industry, Tonly has maintained a leading pace of overseas business growth. It adds: “At the same time, the company has successfully broken into high-end overseas markets, implementing its mature, reliable, efficient, and energy-saving green and intelligent mining transport solutions in premium mining regions such as Peru and Brazil, thereby continuously elevating the brand influence and industry standing of ‘Smart Manufacturing from China’ within the global high-end mining sector.”

Recently, working with its dealer ZAMine Service Brasil Ltda, Tonly delivered a fleet of 91 t payload DTH145 hybrid mining trucks to Juiz de Fora-headquartered R&D Mineracao e Construcao Ltda, a large mining contractor in Brazil. Tonly said this large-scale export marks a significant milestone in its overseas market strategy and represents a major project demonstrating how high-end Chinese new-energy mining equipment is deeply penetrating the South American market, “helping overseas mining operations cut costs and reduce carbon emissions while injecting powerful Chinese momentum into the development of local green, intelligent mines.”

As a long-established contract mining enterprise with 40 years of roots in Brazil, R&D operates across more than 20 major core mines, specialising in open-pit mining, earth and rock haulage, and mining infrastructure development. Its customers include or have included Anglo American, BAMIN, Atlantic Nickel, CSN, Equinox Gold, Magnesita, Hydro, Lundin Mining, Hochschild and others.

Amid the global mining industry’s accelerating shift toward efficiency, eco-friendliness, and sustainability, the enterprise has sought new transport models that balance high productivity with low-carbon energy efficiency. Ultimately, it chose to partner with Tonly, “launching a new journey of green transformation in Brazilian mining operations through a customised hybrid mining truck solution.”

The DTH145 hybrid mining truck delivered Tonly says is a flagship new-energy model, custom-engineered to meet the demands of complex mining environments in South America. Built upon a mature and reliable hybrid technology platform, the vehicle combines the high-strength load-bearing structure of rigid mining trucks with the high adaptability of wide-body mining trucks.

It integrates Tonly’s proprietary vehicle control system, a 570 kW Guangxi Yuchai engine, high-performance power-type 176 kW LFP battery capable of rapid charging and discharging, a dual-motor hybrid drive system, a multi-speed AMT, and a high-efficiency range-extending power generation system. This configuration “enables intelligent, coordinated control of power output, energy management, and regenerative braking, resulting in faster power response, superior heavy-load hill-climbing capability, and enhanced adaptability to complex mining terrains.”

Tonly adds: “At the same time, the dual advantages of energy efficiency and reliability make this hybrid mining truck highly competitive in the market. By operating the engine within its high-efficiency range and utilising electric assistance alongside regenerative braking, the vehicle effectively lowers overall fuel consumption while reducing energy use and carbon emissions per unit of transport.” These benefits – energy savings and emission reductions – Tonly says become increasingly significant and impactful during prolonged, continuous operations.

Regarding safety, the vehicle employs a dual-braking system that combines mechanical brakes with regenerative braking (via motor resistance), complemented by a one-touch emergency braking function; “this setup ensures rapid intervention and stable braking in critical situations, providing comprehensive safety for heavy-load mining transport. It precisely aligns with the core operational imperatives of mining enterprises: improving quality, boosting efficiency, cutting costs, and achieving green development.”
